Summer plans and reading recommendations + too many RuPaul Drag Race gifs

This post can turn into something great or something terrible, I have no idea. Hyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Today I`m here to talk about my summer plans, but don`t get too excited. Because I don`t have any big plans. No fancy places or holidays, just work and Netflix. So call it a blogger`s low rent vacay. But just because you`re broke, that doesn`t mean you can`t be fabulous. (now you see the point of the Drag Race gifs?) I do have some down key, exciting things planned, so stay with me.

Go to the Beach
Ideally, I`d love to sip Pina Coladas on a beach in Ibiza. At this point, I might even settle for Brighton. And if the budget is extremely tight, I`ll set for Southend-on-Sea. Just a bit of sun would be nice. Last year we went to Bulgaria and we had a wonderful time, but I don`t have any more holiday days left. I might get 3-4 days off, but that`s it.

Visit Glasgow
Another budget holiday that I have on my mind is in Glasgow. One of my best friends lives there, so I was thinking about surprising him. I was supposed to go in January, but life got in the way and I did not get a chance to do it. So my plan is to go there and be like:

Visit the Warner Bros. Studio and see The Making of Harry Potter
This one is self-explanatory. I am a Potterhead, and this is an experience you can`t miss. If I`m lucky I might get the tickets to the "Breakfast at Hogwarts" event.

Become Healthier
I struggle with a hormonal imbalance and I have gained a lot of weight over the past two years. I wasn`t very happy with myself and in some ways, I gave up. I ate all the junk food I could get. If the problem is hormonal, why bother with a diet? But it was wrong to think like that. I might not be able to control my medical condition, but I can make sure I exercise and eat healthy food.

Be more confident
As you can see from my statement above, I struggle with my body image. It`s not easy going from 50kg to 67kg in the course of a year. There were moments when I felt disgusting. Even now, the idea of wearing a bikini scares me. And I know that it shouldn`t, but it`s hard to fight with these media standards.

Read 15 books
My 2017 reading goal is 50 books. So far I`m at 28. And I know that 15 books during the summer might seem like I`m pushing it. But November-December will be a busy period at work, so I`d like to achieve my goals by then.

And now, the moment you`ve been waiting for, my summer reading recs:

  • "Amy and Roger`s Epic Detour" by Morgan Matson
I think that any Morgan Matson book is perfect for summer. But this one involves a road trip across America and it has all the summer vibes you need. There are some serious aspects to it, but overall it`s a feel good book.

  • "Geekerella" by Ashley Poston
It`s funny, it`s cute and it will appeal to your geeky side. As you might have guessed from the title, it`s a modern Cinderella retelling, which takes places in Charleston. Part rom-com, part love letter to nerd culture, "Geekerella" is the perfect book to read at the beach.

I have talked about this book so much, that I`m sure you`re sick of me raving about it. The main character is Simon, a high-school student who hasn`t come out yet. When some private emails fall into the wrong hands, Simon is forced to play wingman for Marty.
Dimple and Rishi are two Indian-American teens whose parents suggest an arranged marriage. Before everyone loses their shit, please read my review. The term "arranged marriage" is used loosely and it is more of a setup than anything else. It is a lovely YA rom-com that also highlights aspects of Indian culture.
A beautiful and touching coming of age story about friendship and sexual/cultural identity. This was one of my favourite books of 2016 and to this date, few have been able to match it.

I did want to include some series on this list as well, but the truth is I`m very behind with that. I`m terrible when it comes to starting/finishing series. So I just focused on contemporaries, as most people tend to reach for those in the summer. And yes, I know that they are popular. But they`re also very good, OK?
