TTT: Favourite Book Quotes

A few years ago I was really into artsy notebooks, and I remember I had a scrapbook filled with book quotes and paper cuts from various magazines. I don`t know what happened with that, but luckily you can like quotes on Goodreads and keep up with the times. Today`s TTT post is about your favourite quotes, and I`ve decided that not only will I share them, but I`ll tell you why they mean so much to me. So let`s get down to business and become an emotional wreck:

"It is better to be unhappy and know the worst, than to be happy in a fool`s paradise" - "The Idiot", by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
"The Idiot" is my favourite book, and it`s hard to narrow it down to just one quote. I think that this quote is every pessimist's motto. I think that for everyone, each sentence has a different meaning. For me, this quote is similar to wanting to know about all the injustice that happens in the world. Just because I have a comfortable living that does not mean I should be blind to everything wrong with this world. Granted, you should not let it consume you. But you should be aware of the bad and try to do everything in your power to fix it.

"The only thing that doesn`t abide by majority rule is a person` conscience" - "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
Again, I could have picked so many quotes from this wonderful book. But I think that this sentence speaks for itself. You always have to do what`s right, regardless of what might happen.

"We`ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That`s who we really are" - "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" by J.K.Rowling
I think one could write a 200 pages book just with the quotes from Harry Potter. There are many more that I like, but this is my favourite. I don`t think that anyone is truly good or evil (well, maybe a few exceptions), it`s our choices that define us.

"Not all those who wander are lost" - "The Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien
So I should say something smart about the meaning of life. But the thing is you have one life, and that is yours alone. So you better live it.

"Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you" - "The Shadow of The Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Quotes about books and reading are my favourite! Because reading is such a personal matter, and everyone will understand situations individually. We sometimes connect with fictional characters because we see a part of ourselves in them.

I could have probably picked many more quotes, but I`ll leave it like that at the moment. I might do a series where I talk about my favourite quotes from classics, fantasy, contemporary, etc. Let`s be honest: with so many masterpieces out there, there are countless quotes to choose from. And because I want to finish on a light note, here`s a bonus:

"Accept who you are. Unless you`re a serial killer" - Ellen Degeneres, "Seriously...I`m kidding"

  1. I like that Lord of the Rings quote - I think we all have a different path in life, and someone who doesn't conform to social norms isn't necessarily lost or doing it wrong.

  2. Nice list! I love the quote from Lord of the Rings. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  3. That quote from Harry Potter I've seen on a few lists today, it is a really good one.
    My TTT:

  4. Ha, that last one speaks for itself ;)

  5. Nice, I like the Harry Potter, and Lord of The Rings. Have a great week!!

  6. I agree with you there about Harry Potter quotes. We literally have them hanging up all around our house because they're that good. xD I also have a tote bag with that LOTR quote, which resulted in me making a new friend at my campus bookstore because she noticed my bag and started fangirling about it.

  7. Lol, I love Ellen ;) Haha

That Lord of the Rings one is my favourite from this list! It's so beautiful.

    Great, diverse choices :)

  8. Great list of quotes. I love the one from To Kill a Mockingbird.
