Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

It`s that time of the year when we`re freaking out about the books we`ve read (bookworms do this all the time). Last year with the pregnancy and first months of motherhood I didn`t read a lot, but now I`m getting out of my reading slump. If I don`t push it, I won`t reach my target, but I`m thankful I found a balance between motherhood and reading.
Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

1. Best book you`ve read so far
Part of me wants to say "Vengeful" by V.E. Schwab, but I also adored "The Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook" by Christina Henry. In terms of writing, story and character development, "Vengeful" is the clear winner. But "The Lost Boy" is one of those books that you think about long after you`ve read it, so there`s that.

2. Best sequel you`ve read so far
"Deck of Omens", the sequel to "The Devouring Gray" by Christine Lynn Herman. I am not the biggest fan of paranormal books, but this duology kept me on the edge of my seat constantly. I also loved the fact that the sequel turns everything you know upside down. The characters were likeable, and I even enjoyed the romances.

3. New release you haven`t read yet but want to
" A Heart So Fierce And Broken" by Brigid Kemmerer. I loved "A Curse So Dark and Lonely", and this one focuses on my favourite personal guard, so it`s a mystery why I haven`t picked it up yet.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
I`m afraid that this year I didn`t keep up with the latest releases. I don`t have a lot of free time, and when I pick up a book, I`d rather go with backlist titles or books in series. I`m also on a book buying ban, so until I renew my Scribd membership, no new releases for me.

5. Biggest disappointment
I`ll have to go with "P.S. I Still Love You" by Jenny Han. I just didn`t see the point of this book, especially when you know how it will end. Why introduce the superior option, and not give the boy a chance? Though to be fair, both Lara Jean and Peter are flawed, so they balance each other. John would have been too precious for Lara. I said what I said.

6. Biggest surprise
"Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook" by Christina Henry is one of the best retellings I`ve ever read. I loved how dark it was, and the dynamic between Hook and Peter Pan was so entertaining.

7. Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
Christina Henry. I want to read all of her twisted retellings, cause they all sound so good.

8. Newest fictional crush
John Ambrose McClaren is a sweetheart, and I`m weirdly happy that Lara Jean didn`t pick him, cause he deserves better.

9. Newest favourite character
It`s hard to choose, but I`ll pick Oliver Marks from "If We Were Villains" by M.L.Rio. I love a character with a flair for the dramatic. In a group of hedonists, Oliver was the good guy, the moral compass. I can`t say too much without giving away the ending, so just read the book and see for yourselves why he`s such a sweet guy.

10. Book that made you cry
None so far. I had an emotional pregnancy, and now I`m tough as nails. Or I reserve my tears for when Adelina wakes me up at 5 AM.
