My 2021 Bookish and Blogging Goals

Hello, everyone! Today we're going to talk about some of my goals for 2021, a year that I am hoping will be better for everyone. I have always said that I don't do resolutions, but I absolutely adore setting up goals. What's the difference, you might ask? Resolutions are often vague and lack direction. Goals are better defined, and in most cases, they require an action plan.

Resolutions are often like impossible dreams, and therefore, fail in most cases. We're not willing to put in the work. We often set popular resolutions, like losing weight or saving more money. But we don't think about what's the motivation behind that resolution, or what are our guiding values. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer goals. I have weekly, monthly and yearly goals, and although it sounds stressful, it's not. I love feeling motivated, and crossing goals of my list.

2021 READING GOALS

Bookish Goals
I didn't reach my Goodreads reading goal last year, but I don't feel bad about it. I am quite happy with how much I have read, considering I am a new mum. As months go by, it's easier to have a routine with Adelina, and now I can honestly say that I have found a balance between motherhood and "me time". With that in mind, I would like to read 52 books this year. I am actually aiming for 75, but I don`t want to put too much pressure and skip big books just to reach a target.

As I`ve mentioned in a previous post, I want to go back to reading classics, but those take longer. English is not my first language, and although I don't have a problem with modern novels, sometimes I struggle with the language in classics. I could read them in Romanian, but if I am reading Victorian literature, I might as well do it properly, in the language they were written.

I also want to finish 8 series this year. I am not sure which ones they'll be yet, but I need to do it. I have a bad habit of starting series, but never finishing them. Not to mention that just when you think you`re done with a series, 3 more books are announced. I`ll probably finish on older duologies and trilogies, and make my way to bigger book series.

Blogging Goals
This wasn't one of my best blogging years, although I did write some posts I am very proud of. But my schedule was all over the place, and the social media promotion was non-existent. Things got more complicated when I`ve decided to have separate social accounts for this blog and my lifestyle blog, Carmen Chats. It`s not easy handling so many platforms, which is why I`ll have to get better at scheduling posts.

How exactly do I plan to reach my blogging goals? I`m actually scheduling my content months in advance, and have days when I write 10 posts per day. Once a month, I plan on creating the pins for the upcoming month. Since I`ve invested in some Pinterest templates, this job got a lot easier. In sounds easy when you put it on paper, but the truth is, once you master time management, it really is easy. My biggest problem remains the photos, as lighting affects the quality of your pictures and that`s something I can`t control.

Ideally, I`d love to get my DA to 30 (it`s 12 at the moment). I know that book blogging is a small niche, and you don`t get the biggest traffic compared to other blogs. Therefore, I`m happy even with anything over 20. In the future, I`d love to use those stats and be able to pitch to publishers. Money is tight, and it would be awesome to get some ARCs and not constantly buy books.

Most importantly, I want to keep enjoying this little corner of the internet. In one of my most popular blog posts, I`ve mentioned that I want to start making money with this blog, but those aren`t mutually excluding. When you`re content with your work, it feels natural to see some benefits. Book bloggers work so hard, I can`t believe their efforts aren`t better rewarded. I know we do it because we`re passionate about books, but at the end of the day, why should we be the only bloggers that aren`t paid?

I`m curious to see what are some of your 2021 goals. Do you enjoy setting resolutions? Let me know.

  3. I don't have too many goals personally, I just hope to read 100 books and I'll be happy.
